In our previous exploration, Blueprints to Success; Crafting Your Future - Part 1 we laid the groundwork for leading a life of strategic self-development by correlating this to a strategic business approach. We considered the critical importance of a well-considered plan, drawing parallels between the essential components of a business blueprint and the chapters of our personal life plans. As we transition from the theoretical framework to the practical application of these principles, we set the stage for a deeper dive into the practices of Slow Productivity and Essentialism. Now, in this post, we continue our journey. By focusing on refining our life's blueprint with intentionality and focus, treating our personal growth and goal achievement with the same strategic consideration as a successful business. Join me as we navigate through the process of defining who we are, what we do, and how we can intentionally live a life focused on the essentials, crafting a future by our own design.
Defining Who You Are and What You Do
Wherever you are in life right now, you must stop and go deep to consider who you want to be, starting at your core. This is a choice. It took many years for me to transition from what I "have" to do to what I "choose" to do. You might look at your situation and think you have no choice, but you do. It starts with being still and looking deep inside to find your passions and what brings you alive. When you find this, try adapting the core business plan components and build a life plan, that creates a structured approach to personal development and goal achievement. Treating your life with the same strategic consideration as a successful business might not be easy. It will take discipline, study, hard work, a strong network of personal advisors and mentors, and prayer all along the way.
With a plan in place, we can refer to my previous post, 'Reflecting on Relentless Goals and the Need for Change,' I wrote about applying Slow Productivity and how Essentialism is all about focusing on the essential aspects of your life. Doing the deep work of developing your personal life plan, gives you a roadmap to understand what is most essential in this season of your life.
Build The Foundation

Just as a building’s foundation supports everything above it, ensuring stability and longevity, the foundation of a life plan provides the essential base upon which all personal and professional growth, goals, and achievements are built.
Like a business, you must establish a vision and mission and cultivate an operating philosophy before you can intentionally live a life focused on the essentials. Inspired by one of my heroes, Stephen Covey, and his well-known book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," one of his habits emphasizes the importance of beginning with the end in mind, and advocating for a life plan that aligns with one's values and goals. Below is a sneak peek at the beginning of my personal life plan, which, for me, is centered around leadership.

This is my foundation, upon which all my personal and professional development plans are built. The foundation stays solidly intact as I explore, experiment, design, and execute my personal and professional goals and objectives. Upon the foundation lie many adventures that come in the form of initiatives or projects, such as a focused personal 6-month learning objective, a 2-year career transition strategy, or a 1-year business launch plan. In most cases, multiple initiatives will be in flight simultaneously. As I navigate these initiatives, the deliberate pace and focused intent of Slow Productivity and Essentialism are intriguing to me.
Embracing Slow Productivity and Essentialism
With my plan and goals established, I can now focus on the missions (projects) that I have in my life. I've written about an overarching Season of Purpose and shared my mission to speak and inspire others toward their own self-actualization through healing. Throughout the coming weeks and months ahead, projects will be completed, and new projects will be initiated. At some point, multiple projects will be in flight simultaneously. This is where Slow Productivity and Essentialism come in—to focus on Quality and not Quantity.
Adopting Slow Productivity into your life plan can be a transformative approach to achieving your personal and professional goals with intention and mindfulness. This concept, akin to the principles of essentialism, emphasizes the importance of focusing on quality over quantity, encouraging you to prioritize tasks and projects that align with your core values and long-term objectives. More important than identifying the essential is eliminating the non-essential. I'll even add that I think that it is the more challenging thing to do.
By integrating Slow Productivity into your life blueprint, you can cultivate a more balanced, fulfilling lifestyle, ensuring that each action you take is a deliberate step toward realizing your envisioned future. This method not only enhances your productivity in a sustainable manner but also fosters a more profound sense of purpose and satisfaction in your journey, mirroring the strategic and thoughtful planning of a successful business.
